Turkey isn’t an EU member, but it has something few other non-EU countries do: a Customs Union agreement with the EU covering most industrial goods, which changes how you should plan freight compared to a typical non-EU market.
The EU Customs Union Advantage — and Its Limits
Because of the EU-Turkey Customs Union, most industrial and manufactured goods move between the EU and Turkey without the tariffs you’d see shipping to a fully external market. This doesn’t mean customs paperwork disappears — you still need proper documentation and, for reusable stand structures, an ATA Carnet remains the most efficient route — but duty exposure on qualifying goods is generally lower than shipping to markets outside this arrangement. Agricultural goods, some raw materials, and services aren’t covered by the Customs Union, so it’s worth confirming your specific stand materials and any product samples fall under the covered categories.
