A Bar Convent Berlin stand has to be a bar

Bar Convent Berlin is the trade show the bar industry built for itself. The people walking the aisles are bartenders, bar owners, brand ambassadors and buyers — people who judge a spirit by how it is poured, and judge a stand by whether they would want to drink at it. In other words, product shelves do not work in that room. A working bar does.

Accordingly, Beluga Noble Vodka took 32 m² for the 2023 edition and asked for exactly that: a bar that could carry a full cocktail programme for three days and still read, from across the hall, as a luxury vodka house. A Bar Convent Berlin stand earns its place with the second drink, not the first glance.

The sunburst wall

The sunburst: every bottle position drawn, every row backlit.

The centrepiece is the back wall: a half-circle of bottles set radially in a gold frame, lit from behind like a sunrise. The drawings fix the position of every 0.7-litre bottle, row after row, so that the product itself is the decoration rather than something placed in front of it.

Moreover, it is the reason the stand photographs the way it does. As a result, every picture a bartender takes of a drink on that bar has the wall behind it, and the brand travels out of the hall in other people’s phones. Indeed, at a show where the audience is the industry’s own influencers, that matters more than any banner.

Gold that had to be made, not bought

The steel frame of the Beluga sunburst wall being fabricated on a workshop floor, with radial bars and circular sections welded in place.
The sunburst frame on the workshop floor, welded in steel before finishing.

There is no catalogue item for a stand in onyx and electroplated gold. Instead, our metalworkers welded the sunburst frame in steel, setting out its radial bars and rings full size on the workshop floor. Then came the finishes: electroplated side arches, CNC-cut plexiglass with brass cut-outs, and onyx cut to drawing and backlit so the stone glows rather than sits.

However, underneath all of that gold is something nobody sees: recycled timber. The contract required recycled materials for the stand’s wooden structure, with a notice on the wall saying so. Luxury on the surface, responsibility in the frame — and the frame doing the job the brand wanted to be seen doing.

A bar that works for three days

Service under way on the opening day.

After all, a show bar is a working kitchen in miniature. Ice, glassware, garnish, bottles in reserve, staff coats and bags all need somewhere to go that is not the bar top. Therefore the lockable storage room behind the back wall takes all of it, with shelving and hanging space, so the service side stays clean from the first pour to the last.

We handed the stand over ready for the brand’s own bartenders to run. The build photographs carry the dates 7 and 8 October; the doors opened on the 9th, and by then the only thing left to do was chill the vodka.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a Bar Convent Berlin stand for us?

Yes. This 32 m² bar stand was built for Bar Convent Berlin 2023, 9–11 October, and handed over ready for service.

Can you build a working bar into an exhibition stand?

Yes. A show bar needs a service side, storage for stock, ice and glassware, and power in the right places. Here a lockable store sits directly behind the back wall so the bar top never fills up.

Can a luxury stand use recycled materials?

Yes. This stand’s timber structure was built from recycled materials, as the client’s contract required, with all the gold and onyx finishes on top.
